Lazaridis is a resident of Waterloo, Canada. But he was born in Istanbul, Turkey. Then, his parents coming from Greece Lazaridis brought to Canada when she was five years old. In 1979, Lazaridis decided to attend the University of Waterloo Electrical Engineering majoring in computer science. As a student, he got a $ 500,000 contract from General Motors (GM) to build a network computer control display. Of funding a contract with GM, plus a $ 15,000 loan from his parents, Lazaridis was a student who founded a company called Research in Motion (RIM).
